JAZZ.FM91 announced the lineup of the 2012-2013 JAZZ.FM91 Cabaret Series, a five-part concert series taking place at Hugh’s Room, one of Canada’s premier live music venues.
The JAZZ.FM91 Cabaret Series kicks off on Monday, September 10th with a must see show called “West Coast Cool” with Grammy Award winner Cheryl Bentyne of The Manhattan Transfer, performing with award winning singer and lyricist, Mark Winkler. For one night only inToronto, Bentyne and Winkler pay tribute to jazz from the West Coast.
On October 22nd, singer/songwriter Halie Loren takes to the stage. Winner of multiple songwriting awards as early as her teens, Halie Loren’s talent for phrasing and mature alto voice have earned her a number one spot on iTunes Japan and Canada jazz album charts for her 2011 album “Heart First”.
October 30th, Roseanna Vitro will perform a “Tribute to Randy Newman”. A world-wide admired performer and recording artist, Roseanna Vitro has recorded twelve critically acclaimed albums, and her release of “The Music of Randy Newman” earned a Grammy Award nomination in the “Vocal Jazz” category. She’s soulful, inventive and a story-teller with a flair for touching audiences. Vitro has headlined at The Blue Note, Jazz atLincolnCenter and The Kennedy Center inWashingtonDC.
Ian Shaw joins the Cabaret on December 3rd. Ian Shaw has amassed a number of highly acclaimed albums and is a popular performer both in theUK andCanada. An incredibly colourful character, he has been cited as one of the world’s finest male jazz vocalists. His acclaimed 2006 album “Drawn to All Things – the songs of Joni Mitchell” saw him “Praised far and wide as the single greatest male jazz vocalist Britain has to offer” by Jazz Times.
British Cabaret star Barb Jungr closes the series on March 12th. Known for her distinctive vocal style, innovative musical arrangements and fierce stage presence, Barb Jungr is an internationally acclaimed jazz and cabaret vocalist. She has toured all over the world and enjoyed critical and popular success with recordings of her own and unique interpretations of other artists’ songs. Barb was featured in Time Out New York’s best of the year in 2010 with Best Cabaret CD of the year, and was nominated for the 26th Annual Mac Awards for Show of the Year by the Manhattan Association of Cabaret and Clubs.
“Now in its third season, we are delighted to expand to five concerts, and showcase some of the best in cabaret.
