Opening Act: Harrison Kennedy
Marking the release of her new double CD – Time, on the Toronto-based international label ElectroFi, Shakura S’Aida will perform music from her second CD of the set, titled Time for the Blues.
Shakura S’Aida has earned her status as an international artist. Born in Brooklyn, raised in Switzerland, and a Toronto resident for more than 20 years, she speaks three languages, and tours overseas constantly. So far this year she’s performed on the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise in the Caribbean and appeared in Moscow, Abu Dhabi, Romania and Switzerland. Earlier this month she performed her first concert with a symphony orchestra, a successful event in Wheeling West Virginia.
Last year she performed in Australia, half a dozen European countries (some of them twice) and helped organize a festival in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda.
Her new double CD features seven original songs co-written with guitarist Donna Grantis, two with Brooke Blackburn and three of her own pieces. There are also covers associated with Billie Holiday and Long John Baldry.
