Ken Whiteley’s is a Canadian roots music legend. His musical journey has taken him from jug band, folk and swing to blues, gospel and children’s music. Among numerous accolades, he has been awarded a Canadian Folk Music Award, Genie Award for Best Original Song in a Canadian film, Lifetime Achievement recognition from the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals and Mariposa Folk Festival. He has also been nominated for 7 Juno awards and 14 Maple Blues Awards. Ken’s live performances showcase his outstanding musicianship on guitars and mandolin, award winning original songs and his powerful vocals, called “…a cross between Pete Seeger and Tony Bennett on 11!” Whether leading his own group, solo or collaborating with peers at blues, folk, children’s festivals and concerts of all sizes, his “…deep knowledge and infectious passion” guarantee good times for all. As a producer of over 125 recording projects, Ken’s productions have garnered 10 Canadian Gold and Platinum records, 4 American Gold records, 22 Juno and 2 Grammy nominations, and sold over 8 million copies.
Caitlin Hanford has a voice with a pure, Appalachian quality, perfectly suited to the high, lonesome sound of traditional country and bluegrass. Originally from Bainbridge Island, Washington, Caitlin immigrated to Canada after graduating from McGill University. With Chris Whiteley she carved a path in the Canadian Alt-Country scene, receiving several Juno nominations. In 1997 she recorded her first solo album, Bluer Skies, to many accolades. Caitlin’s current musical life consists of solo work, Quartette (Sylvia Tyson, Cindy Church, Gwen Swick and Caitlin), and The Marigolds (Suzie Vinnick and Gwen Swick).
As an innovative, groundbreaking, performer, educator and author Mike Stevens continues to expand the paradigms of Harmonica, balancing tradition with cutting edge innovation. He has toured the world with legendary Bluegrass music stars, Grand Ole Opry members Jim & Jesse and he can count among his fans Roy Acuff, – the King of country music. Mike has logged more than 300 appearances on the world famous Grand Ole Opry stage and is a true pioneer of Bluegrass Harmonica; creating a much copied style of playing. When Mike performs, the Harmonica becomes a musical paintbrush with no limits. “He literally Breathes In the World and Breathes out Music.” Mike is also the founder of Artscan Circle, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping youth in remote communities across Canada.
Kristin Cavoukian is probably best known as one of the most in-demand session singers in Toronto’s roots music scene. She can be heard on recordings by top folk/roots artists such as Annie Lou, Laura Repo, Chris Coole, Sandy Bell, Dan Mock, and QuiQue Escamilla. Since 2008, she has joined Danny Simmons in their acoustic duo act, The Saturday Saints, which has performed at festivals around Ontario, and recently returned from a “Home Routes” tour of Alberta. Kristin also plays in Houndstooth, a five-piece bluegrass band that performs weekly at Toronto’s Tranzac Club.
