Jason Wilson and Lorne Brown
In support of the eponymous book (2012), award-winning author and two-time Juno Award nominee Jason Wilson leads a stellar cast in a highly-entertaining show celebrating Canada’s famous First World War Concert Party: The Dumbells.
Wilson will be joined by Canadian Storyteller Lorne Brown and his own “era-appropriate” band. The presentation will enlighten audiences on the story of the Dumbells and Wilson and company will reimagine the musical fare of the famous comedy troupe.
If nationhood was won on the crest of Vimy Ridge, it was the Dumbells who provided the country with its earliest soundtrack. Yet, their popularity was not limited to troop shows along the trenches. The Canadian soldier-entertainers also managed a run in London’s West End and became the first ever Canadian production to score a hit on Broadway. Touring the nation for some twelve years after the war, the Dumbells became a household name in Canada and their legacy remains intact with those who boast some connection to that Great War. This show will transport audiences back to a time when our fighting men whistled along to ‘The Dumbell Rag’.
